For shame

"Maybe his solution will be to get out his small varmint gun and drive those Guatemalans off his lawn."

Once again, the good Guatemalan people are strewn through the mud for pathetic, political gain. These words were uttered by US Presidential candidate John McCain.

Small varmint gun...

Are the good people of Guatemala small varmints to Mr. McCain? Is that how he views Latino people as a whole? Nothing but the small varmints who make your lawn look green in the middle of the summer? Are we to be shooshed away by a "small varmint gun"?

I am not a small varmint Mr. McCain. Guatemalans are not small varmints Mr. McCain. The good Latino people are not small varmints Mr. McCain. We are hard working people trying to get our piece of the American dream. We are not "varmints". We may be blue-collared, but we are people.

Is there a large Guatemalan-American swing vote? Not yet, but we're growing. I do know that the Latino population may not take lightly to your referring to one of their own as a small varmint. This is not the way to garner votes. Or as in your case, respect for the blue collar worker; of which, it is apparent, you have none.

It's easy to pick on the little guy. It's just a shame that a man who wishes to lead this country has to do so.

Mucho Amor,

El Guapo

Alright, what McCain said was stupid, but he was actually saying it in support of immigrants, and insulting Mitt Romney a) for claiming to be a life long hunter and b) opposing the new immigration reform bill but hiring undocumented workers.

McCain is probably one of the strongest supporters of immigration reform that will help many of the people from Latin American countries living and working in the U.S. So even though his comment sounds really stupid out of context (and, let's be honest, in context as well), don't let that negate all the work he is trying to do to help immigrants living in the U.S.

And it was Romney who employed undocumented (Guatemalan) workers to water his lawn and used the words "small varmints" to appease his rifle-loving fan base. McCain, though I am not a fan, was being sarcastic.

maybe you should consider publicly endorsing the Hispanic candidate ... ;-)

I think it would be very helpful to his campaign.

ok....so you misunderstood what he said. which is kind of strange being that you linked the article and the first few lines explain that he was referring to romni with sarcasm. fix that!

Dios... Fine. I didn't read the rest of the article. I saw the Guatemalan quip and I stopped.

Images of your politicians will now forever be burned into my brain as looking like Yosemite Sam, who's the only character I've ever heard use the word "varmint"

El Guapo, I love you even more for admitting you didn't read the whole article. Taking umbrage, then grudgingly admitting you might have stopped a bit short....eres el capo de los capos.

McCain is a self-serving, racist Republican and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. His comment was indeed racist, and he has a history of saying insulting things about people and races.

Yes, he was tortured during 'Nam and we all feel bad about it, but that doesn't make Vietnamese people "gooks." Yes, Chelsea Clinton was a little awkward looking as a young girl, but he didn't have to openly call her "ugly."

"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?" McCain reportedly said at a GOP fund-raiser in Washington. "Because Janet Reno is her father."

Wow! How funny! Trash young, awkward kids, ambitious women and lesbians all at once! What a hero!

What kind of man would do that? You guys wanna trust him? Just watch your back-- because he'll be calling immigrants wetbacks and varmints when he's got the right audience.

He doesn't give on hoot about immigrants--he just wants the big business guys in his corner. Wake up, guys. Call 'em like you see 'em and don't second guess when something feels smarmy, cause it probably is smarmy. He was supposedly against religious intolerance and showed up to speak at Falwell's university a few months back. He'll support immigrant reform as long as his backers get their cheap labor.

McCain is a smarmy opportunist, and if you cross him, he's probably got a Guatemalan varmint gun to prove it.
